It's that time of year again where the nights start way too early and it seems like you're always turning lights on and off around the house. I thought I'd just go with that theme for a bit with my small canvases. Dark dramatic lighting will be my focus but the objects will change. Pumpkins I have been trying to paint pumpkins for a few weeks now, on and off. Unfortunately, I have a lot of unfinished ones lying around. Lighting has also been an issue in new studio. Despite all the lights in here, with November being so grey and dark, the lights are always on and bouncing around creating too many light sources. Pale Autumn is a darker study (unintended irony, I apologize). There were so many off-whites and creams that it was unavoidable but to include the November light (or lack of it) in it (a more yellow tone). I think it gives off a nice atmosphere. I can't believe it's already nearing the end of November.  I have been painting Fall and Christmas themes at the same time and it's mighty confusing. It's that time of year again.  The day after Halloween. I've been working on Christmas items for a few weeks now, among other things. Here are a few that are done or almost done.

In 2013, we made a spontaneous trip up north to Algonquin Park at the end of September. Us (my hubby, me, the kids and the dog), and thousands of others. The campgrounds were packed and buses were dropping off people like ants to candy. I had never seen anything like it.  Why was everyone rushing there, you ask.  The weather was amazing (sunny and warm) and the leaves were perfect (the fall colour was striking). The warm air created fog in pockets in the hills, it was breathtaking. I have painted this picture before but I wanted to try again. Below you can see the process.
