Composition

It seems I have a tendency to run my compositions off the page. It's something I really am intrigued with. Although it makes it more contemporary a style I think it works for me, since my subject is so traditional. I feel like there is a completeness to it. Although when trying to create a traditional still life, I find working with empty space difficult not sure what to do with it. I also find, I'm still running it off the page.                      These last few examples have been me painfully conscious and trying                                                               NOT to use the sides.                                           So the question is, which ones work better?

Stacked

I really love a fun composition. This layout gives off a lot of energy, so I kept the brushstrokes choppy and bold.  Stacked 10" by 10" oil on canvas Click to Buy

Cream and Copper

I have a stack of small canvases that I am currently working on. This one has been staring at me for three weeks. I finally finished it up earlier this week.  Cream and Copper (142) 12" by 9" oil on canvas Click to Buy

Joy

This is a fun painting I did last week and finished up yesterday. It has thick applications here and there, and is full of fun colours.  Joy (157) 10" by 10" oil on canvas Click to Buy

Rubber Brushes

On an excursion a few days ago, I was out and saw some rubber brushes. I hadn't seen them before, had only heard of them (and for some reason, never consciously sought them out). But there they were, so I bought them.  Why had I not picked them up before? They are wonderful for that always awkward and finicky signature at the end when everything is so wet and thickly applied.  I had read of two artists that used them, and now, I'm a third. It actually makes my name legible once again.

Summertime

This summer has been interesting so far.  We're three weeks in and my daughter (17) has two part time jobs for the season (one of which is a gallery assistant - squee!). She is a busy bee. My son is 16, is autistic and loves routine, he's having a tougher time adapting. Next week will be a summer camp week, yay! Routine and schedules may allow me some regular sleep too.   Yet despite this, I'm managing a few hours painting (my kids are great and self regulate their own entertainment - thank you ipads, iphones). Here's a few that I managed to finish this week so far. Pale Peonies (153) SOLD Pink Peonies (154) 5" by 5" oil on canvas  panel Click to Buy Sidestep (137) 12" by 9" oil on canvas Click to Buy

Grande (135)

This week I have been working a number of different items. One of which, is the painting below. Entitled "Grande" for the large glass vase but also because we're looking upwards at the flowers. Everything just seems so "grande" so it named itself. "Grande" (135) oil on canvas 16" by 12" (40.6 cm x 30.4 cm) Click to Buy
