Happy New Year!

Another thank you to those of you who supported me last year.  It was a great year and I learned a lot.  Here's to hoping that this upcoming year will be just as good, if not better. Maybe I'll even use a different colour other than pink.

JOY

This is a special thank you to those of you who have actively supported me this year. Thank you! Your support is appreciated and needed. It takes a village and all that. So this is a shout out to you. THANK YOU! Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Whatever you celebrate, have a great one! Tamanda

Fun with Florals

I wanted to paint an uplifting floral arrangement. I went through my files and found a photo from earlier in the year. Ranunculus is one of my favourite flowers but I really like a floral arrangement that has a variety of flowers.  This was one of those paintings that didn't paint itself. Some just sing from the beginning and this one...not so much. At one point I thought I was done but I put it on the shelf for a day. I added to it, then put it up again. Then finally today I was just going to finish it, or else.  Now side note here, there's a thing called over-painting. It's an ugly thing and the painting is ruined. There is also the moment when you state it is done because you can't stand it anymore. Despite this overshadowing of doom, I proceeded. It was dodgy but I hope I pulled it off.  Raspberry Fun Floral (189) 8" by 10" oil on canvas board Click to Buy This photo shows the colour better. For anyone who has been foll

Henry

This is the most recent addition to the dogs I've painted this year. Henry was a puppy (as portrayed here) and now, is NOT. He is a big bundle of fur. Although, he will always be a puppy here. Henry oil on canvas board 8" by 8"

Holiday Season

This year was a bit different for me because I started painting Christmas art in October. It was a little confusing and actually a little sad. It didn't feel right. Somehow it loses the magic.  Fast forward a few weeks and now we're in December.  Okay, now I can handle the festivities. All can be found on Etsy.com or Dailypaintworks.com Or just click the icons to the side of this Blog.

Lighting

I have a profound memory of this time last year with the same issues of lighting and taking photographs of my work late at night. It's aggravating. The light bounces around and it's really hard to get the shot.  You can see the dilemma with these two photos. The same piece of art but I did use two different cameras. I also changed locations for the artpiece. I wish I could tell you that I had a full proof set-up location. That would be lies. I basically rotate around the easel/table/backdrop until there isn't any direct shine. There are a few go-to locations but sometimes the light still bounces. Larger studio means more mess

This September I was able to move my studio into a larger room in the house.   Despite this, it never seems to look any cleaner. My theory seems to be that if I can see everything all at once, I'll eventually find it. Right?

Pale Rose (181)

This painting is a part of a darker series I've been doing this Fall. As the days are so dark, despite all the lights being on, I find it's hard not to notice all the shadows. So I'm incorporating them instead. Pale Rose (181) has two subjects that I love; pottery and flowers.  These two subjects are also particularly difficult for me to paint. Standing together they also create another issue, solid versus delicate. I am always swinging back and forth on creating something subtle and gauzy and trying to create dimension. I think in the end, I accomplished what I set out for with this piece. I hope you like it too. Pale Rose (181) 6" by 8" oil on canvas board Click to Buy
