Candy!!!

Another "In-process" Blog.  I snapped some pics as I painted. It's still wet! Try to ignore the shine. "Candy!!!" (20-61) 8"x8" oil on canvas board

Citrus (20-59)

I managed to get this one to look pretty in the process.  This hardly happens. So I thought that I would put it up here.  It starts out pretty simple. Just a few lines. I started with the grapefruit because they were something new.  I wasn't sure about their colours at first. This (above) is how I ended the painting session. I did have to go in and finish up a few things. The shadows and I had left a dark line near lemon.  This final painting is in soft warm light. The background looks more cream then blue. This mat behind the painting shows you how much blue in is painting.

Sweet Treats 2"

This was another study, just a little larger. "Sweet Treats 2" 6" by 6" oil on canvas board panel Available on DailyPaintworks.com

Sweet Treats 1

I wanted to paint something metallic.  I also wanted to try something fun.  It took me a little while and I came up with this idea.  The only problem was keeping the yummy deliciousness in the studio long enough to paint. "Bejeweled"

"Bejeweled"  was a small daily painting where I wanted to explore the light reflecting through the citrus fruit.  I chose I piece of every fruit I had on hand. Grapefruit, orange, lemon and then a lime.  The lemon piece (main right foreground) has come out a little more green  but that was the colour I was seeing at the time.  I painted in light glazes to get the mixture of colours to blend.  It was something new to try and I think I'll continue to explore it. Algonquin Marsh

The largest pieces always take the longest.  So I have taken some progress shots to see how the painting is developing.  I started out wondering if I was going to paint this in a more monochromatic tone. I decided to add more colour in as I went. This one will be called "Algonquin Marsh" when I am finally finished with it.   24" by 36" gallery wrapped canvas

Still Life #9

This is it!  The last!  Eight panels made it to the end.  One did not. I painted it twice and it just wasn't working. You can see all nine that started out below.  "Slices of Sunshine" 5" by 5" oil on canvas panel #20-54   That concludes this series! All can be found on DailyPaintworks.com

Still Life #8

The trouble with photographs I have taken sooo many photographs in the last few weeks.  I keep trying to get the best light possible but you can see the difference here. "Glass Bowl" (20-53) 5" by 5" oil on canvas board Available on DailyPaintworks.com

Still Life #7

Here's the collection! Number seven in the series is below. "Pomegranate and Oranges" 5" by 5"  oil on canvas board (#20-52) Available on DailyPaintworks.com

Old and New

I was reminded the other day, on another artist's post, that you have to look back sometimes to realize how far you've come.  Here are two examples of how much I have learned in two years.                                                                                                2018 "Red Tulips" (#109)                       "Sunshine" (#20-05) 2020                                                         2018  "Floral" (#41)                  "Pink Peonies" (#20-19) 2020 I hope this inspires you!

Still Life #5

"Mixed Up!" I added some pomegranate to the orange still life. Have had the hardest time with lighting lately. I complain every November. I bought some umbrella lights, hoping that this will help.  Despite the overflash of lighting here, this is the truest colour. Autumn!

We have had a wonderful warm week of weather!  Never have we ever had such warm temperatures in November and its the longest fall/autumn we have experienced. I have spent my fair share of time walking along the crunchy leaves. I even found some acorns in earlier October, I got there before the squirrels did.   "Fall Leaves" (#20-35) 8" by 10" oil on canvas panel Available on DailyPaintworks.com

Still Life #4

I added pomegranate this time and changed up to an overhead view.   This one is a bit more playful in the composition. "Accompanied" (20-48) 5" by 5" oil on canvas board Available at DailyPaintworks.com

Still Life #3

More oranges... This is the third painting but going a tad smaller at 5 inches. Playing around more with the composition. "In Pieces" (#20-46) 5" by 5" oil on canvas board Available at DailyPaintworks.com https://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/tamanda-elia/in-pieces-20-46-/841613

Still Life #2

"Unraveled" was my second orange still life.  I wanted to add the underneath of the skin to get that extra light yellow to contrast against the blue. I really like the light and dark contrast to this one. "Unraveled" (#20-45) 6" by 6" oil on canvas board available on Daily Paintworks.com https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/tamanda-elia-8270

Fruit!

Last week I was working with fruit.  I wanted to change it up from flowers and create something with more  definition, more dimension. So I set up a still life zone and painted away.  I just used some board that I bought at a dollar store and taped it together.  The lamp has just a regular bulb in it.  It's sitting on a roll cart so I can move it around. This is the first of the still life's with oranges. "Split"  (#20-44) 6" by 6" oil on canvas board available on DailyPaintworks https://www.dailypaintworks.com/Artists/tamanda-elia-8270
