Not so daily painting

This was another painting that was supposed to be a quick daily painting  and it became a three day painting.  I kept changing the tones from warmer to cooler and then back again.  This is a loose rendition of lavender from my garden from last year. "Lavender" 8" by 8" oil on canvas board panel

Dark Still Life

Last week I was busy with the Blooming March Challenge  but this painting was finished right before it and almost got lost. More in nature with the dark series but it is one of two ranunculus  paintings that have been in the large pile of "to do". "Crimson Depths" 12" by 9" oil on canvas

Last Day Blooming March Challenge!

On the seventh day...I didn't paint! The sun was shining... Even though I didn't paint anything on Sunday, I did do two for two days in a row. Here's the last one that I held back. "Muscari" 7" x 5" oil/ canvas panel I really have had fun despite the stress of the time restriction.  I learned a lot and I'm hoping to do more blossom paintings this year.  Also, I know this Spring upcoming I will be out there with my camera taking a LOT of new pictures.

Day Six Blooming March

Blooming March Challenge Day Six Okay this is cheating. I painted this painting before, last year in fact.  But I am running out of time and well, it is tulips which is the flower for today.  Here's a sneak peek at something that I'm doing for spring... These canvases are 18" x 18"!!!

Day Five Blooming March

Blooming March Challenge Day Five I had to look up Jasmine Blossoms as I have never seen them in my life. When I take a photo off the internet, I do try to change something about it so that I'm not   taking someone else's photo from them. In this case I cropped it and flipped. It doesn't look like the original photo at all and yet I get a really nice reference. Thank you Internet! 8" x 8" oil / panel

Day Four Blooming March

Blooming March Challenge  Day Four When I set out for this challenge I had a week to prepare. The first thing I did was see what photo references I had and to find whatever was missing. (Hint, I have never seen a Jasmine Blossom ever in my life) Second, I cropped and cut each chosen reference so I knew exactly what I was painting. (For those whom believe that art just happens, this is a lie)  This is part of the process that no one ever sees or mentions. People always ask an artist how long did that painting take? I personally love it when artists answer "about ten to fifteen years". "Forsythia" 6" x 6" oil on canvas panel

Day three of Blooming March

Blooming March Challenge Day Three I will admit that this was actually the first painting I did in the challenge. It was what I would call "a test run" to see if a) I could do blossoms and b) how long they would take all in one go. It seemed to come out okay so I agreed to the challenge. I'm glad I did  "Almond Blossom" 8" x 8" canvas board panel

Day Two Blooming March

Day Two I only have one finished so far...  "Apple Blossom" 8" x 8" oil on canvas panel

Blooming March

All this week is going to be featuring mostly wet on wet paintings. As a part of the Blooming March challenge, I will try to get two paintings done a day for seven days. Or at least one. These are quicker and wetter renderings, having to be finished right away. Let's see how I do... Cherry Blossoms 7" x 5" canvas board Pansies 5" x 7" canvas board

Going BIG!

A little side project I just decided to do last weekend is starting to come together. Taking on too much? Probably. Last year I painted this little guy above. "Sunshine" is only 8" x 8". I have decided to make another, well actually two others, and I didn't stay small. These new ones are 18" x 18"! They will make an impact! I've got the base colours on and have started in with the details.  Fingers crossed they work out.
