Champagne Wishes

Happy New Year! Here's to a new year of possibilities! "Champagne Wishes!" 8" x 8" oil on canvas panel (20-67)

"Happy New Years!!!"

I hope everyone has had the best holiday season that they could. A toast to all of you! Here's hoping that next year gets better! "Happy New Year!" (20-66) 10" x 10" oil on canvas panel

Merry Christmas!

This is a surprise for someone! I'll give you a hint. It's called Green Acres. Merry Christmas!

Saying Goodbye

It is sad and exciting when I mail away my art.  I love the process of putting everything together and sending it off. First thing I do is gather everything together. My artwork is varnished if it hasn't already been done  (something I will admit to only starting to do in the past two years) My canvas boards always have a signed backing.  (canvases are signed on structure and on backing if able to paper back) I try to protect the artwork as much as possible. I think it's important to look pretty too. The extra's are fun to put in.  To find out what goes in here, you'll have to make a purchase. 😉 Somehow it all fits in here. The best part of the experience is seeing my artwork go all over the world. The saddest part is that I think that they're off to live in nicer places than I live in.

New Beginnings for January

I have started up a new dark floral series. I'll be putting up one at a time. This is what it starts out like. Halfway there. I think this one will be named "Spotlight".

My Studio

I move my studio around a few times a year. I am always desperately seeking more space. The intent is to try and be more organized but it just gets so crammed. This is the way it is now.  We will see how long before it changes. It's a surprise that there aren't any dogs in the photo. There's always one down here usually.

"Holiday!"

I think I finally have gotten the lighting right.  The new lights with umbrellas really helped.  Waiting for my art to dry...well patience is going to take longer to learn. "Holiday!" (20-77) oil on canvas Available on Etsy

"Swirls!"

Tis the season! Painting something a little fun. I hope you enjoy your holiday treats this year!   "Swirls!" (20-65) 6" x 6" oil on canvas panel Available at DailyPaintworks

Two for two

I managed to finish up the top painting sometime in the summer. It was part of a Vintage series that I started in the spring. "Spring Silhouettes" 12" x 12" oil on canvas This was my second attempt at the same reference photo. Sometimes it's interesting to see what stays and what gets deleted. "Dark Silhouettes" 10" x 10" oil on canvas

Vintage Series

This past Spring I had intended to create a four piece Vintage series, one to represent each season. I had chosen four separate photograph references but they all had subdued colouring. The two below I finished right away.  "Morning Dew" 12" x 12" oil on canvas SOLD "Early Sunshine" 12" x 12" oil on canvas Available on Etsy The other two got delayed and didn't come out at the same time.  I'm going to finish them up and get them up here.

Sky

I have been wanting to do a painting of the sky for a while.  In the meantime I have been collecting photographs whenever the sky was doing something, or telling my kids to quickly take photos while I was driving. I managed to collect a few good ones. Here below, was from September while taking the dogs for a walk in a park near a lake. "Lake Gibson" 12" by 12" oil on canvas panel board

Size

I have noticed that it is hard to interpret the size of paintings on the internet.  Sometimes I expect a small painting and when you see it in a different picture, it's actually massive and vice versa.  When I was varnishing last week I noticed how big this bow was. (top right) And it got me thinking... Seeing art side by side, or even at a distance, makes a big difference. Setting can change your outlook as well. I'm going to try and incorporate a "setting" photo when I have the option  of multiple photos from now on.  Hopefully it will help.

Winter Fresh

This is a winter portrait. It's a still life that represents winter as I see it. Cool and fresh, harsh light and shadows and a bit of festive spirit. I hope you're getting excited for the holidays. "Winter Fresh" 6" x 6" oil on canvas panel (20-63) Available at Dailypaintworks.com

Old and New

The great thing about art is that you're always learning. I like to look back once in a while and see what has changed. painted January 2020 painted November 2018 I am glad to say that I have taken some of the white paint out of my artwork as well as the outlines.  It's nice to see improvement.

Poinsettias

I painted these this past January. I hadn't managed to get them finished for December of last year. So I did them in January ready for this year. (20-01) (20-02) (20-03) Three different takes from the same plant.

December means Christmas!!!

Christmas bows seem to be the thing to paint. That and shiny ornaments. So I gave the first a try. Maybe I'll try the other too. Christmas is coming...
