Beagle In Process

Many weeks ago I created an abundance of dog portraits. This was one of them. This photo shows some of the textures while it was wet.

Christmas? Already?

It's that time of year. Is it? It always seems to early. I had these wreaths I bought last year. When I was proposed to come up with some Christmas ideas, I didn't want to continue with reds (I have enough of them from years before). In Progress... I wasn't really sure what I was doing at first. Keep it simple? Create a light shadow? How do I make them different? Winter Greens Winter Blues Winter Fresh In the end, this is what I came up with. When they are framed they look fabulous.

Midnight

"Midnight" 48" x 28" Oil on Canvas Soon to be available at Kefi Art Gallery I have this painting currently drying in my hallway. Winnie (my Wheat-a-mix) is photo-bombing my photo shoot here. I always have helpers. I like the size of this canvas to the proportion of this wall. This shows that you can place large art anywhere, not just in large spaces.

Creekview Floral Co. has gone Christmas Crazy!

Christmas and Holiday Decor Galore! Creekview had been wonderful enough to add my art to the mix! Jack is their greeter. He loves people! Especially if they give him a pat and a scratch,  or spend the first five minutes with him like I do. Creekview has other wonderful stuff, not just mine. Have a look around.  Great gift ideas. There are a lot of Christmas paintings but I have also added a few others. They take care of you here at Creekview. Featuring my new wreath paintings for 2022. I have also added prints with matboard all ready to be framed,  for those who want the painting at a lower cost. Also some festive florals, great presents for under the tree. Creekview Floral Co. did an amazing set up for the Holiday Open House. Well done!

Lighting

I spend a lot of time thinking about light. I need to.  Whether it is taking photographs of artwork or trying to get the right colours on my palette, it's an important element. I have here my latest commission. I took this photo next to a patio door. This photo is in the kitchen very close by but I was able to keep the shine off. Both were taken in a well lit (natural light) room. In my studio the lights run warmer and I have small windows letting in very little light. I have to be careful that cool white bright lights change the colours too much.  The painting almost looks blue. So which colour is right? Technically they all are and none of them. Photo number 2 is the closest to what the painting would look like in regular lighting.

Background

The background color is another element that can be personalized. It's an easy way to create something special as part of the commission. Which colour would you choose?
