Dreaming

I have a pretty awesome studio but even I dream sometimes of the ultimate space. Especially windows! I would really like to have some windows! Drawers of storage space for me to just fill with supplies on a whim. All this organization! Built ins! Oh my! So organized! One day!

Dark Harvest

Another one is finished in the dark series.  "Dark Harvest" 10" by 10" (25.4 cm x 25.4 cm) Oil on Canvas #21-09

Getting the Colours Right

When I start painting I try to get the paints set up in the right hues on my palette. This doesn't always go according to plan, in fact, it seldom does. The colours got too dark and I couldn't see what was going on in the shadows. By letting it dry and starting with a clean palette, I was able to put on those highlights and clean it up. I stepped away at this point  (actually, I believe my son told me it was time to play a game app with him)  and let it dry again. The final highlights will come next.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone celebrates! "Hearts and Kisses" 8" x 8" oil on canvas available at Etsy

Wine for Two

A little romance  because it's approaching that time of year again... "Wine for Two" oil on canvas 8" by 8" (20.3 cm x 20.3 cm)

SOLD

I want to send out a thank you to Antoinette for making my week! Having just purchased these top three paintings... she is adding to the painting she purchased last year. Quite a collection! Thank you!

Process

I have been painting a lot of 10" by 10" canvases lately. Like most things that you do over and over again, you realize that you have a method. I have a tendency to paint my canvases three times. The oil paint always gets too wet and you have to stop or everything gets grey really fast. So I usually do what I call the rough base coat first. I sometimes go further and fill in on the first go. Yet I'm not good enough yet to fill it all in and all the details yet. It probably is also due that I paint in layers and glazes for some of my petals instead of just flat color applied strategically beside another. As I'm learning and improving, I guess the important thing is that I get there in the end.

Afternoon Sun

This one took a few tries.  Some come to be, easier than others. Not this one. I was able to get the drawing easily and after that it was a tug-of-war.  "Afternoon Sun" 10" by 10" oil on canvas The greens were either too green or too dark.  The yellows were too yellow or too dark. The highlights were too much or not enough. Even the background was the wrong tone. But I think I got it in the end.

Changing things up again

It wasn't that long ago that I moved my studio around. But I got into a funk last week, so I moved things around. It helped a little. Let's hope it helps me get some paintings finished. There is just always so much stuff!

Reflections

Trying my hand at some more glass and roses. It took a while to work out the kinks in the angles. It was a fun process. "Reflections" 8" by 8" oil on canvas panel

Pale Reflections

More romance ready for Valentine's.  "Pale Rose'" 8" by 8" (20.3 cm x 20.3 cm) oil on canvas

Vintage Blue 2

In the weeks while I was waiting for "Vintage Blue" to be delivered by the USPS mail service  I started painting another one (just in case). Luckily, the first one was delivered all safe and sound  but now I have another one. It's a little different, as I finished it after the other was delivered and realized I could make it it's own. Now it needs a home. "Vintage Blue 2" 10" by 10" (25.4 cm x 25.4 cm) oil on canvas
