Iris (19-14)

Another iris for the collection. This is a part of the spring collection that I am working on. I kept the background simple so the focus was on the main attraction, the bloom. The purple is a deep variation of colour and the top of the bloom is a gauzy white.  This artwork could work in any room. It's small size allows for it to be a part of a larger compilation or in smaller spaces such as hallways, kitchen, or bathrooms. Iris (19-14) 6" by 6" oil on canvas board Click to buy with Paypal

"Scattered" (19-04)

This is finally done. "Scattered" is a medium to large canvas (20" by 20"). Great for a bedroom, hallway, or even a living room. Would look good with smaller artworks hung around it in a hallway display yet strong enough to stand alone. Edges of the painting are painted allowing the picture to continue, this allows you to hang canvas as is for a contemporary look if you choose. You can also frame it in a modern frame or a traditional style frame and matboard. I think this one is feminine but bold. The petals, the colour all create a softer look but the shape of canvas (square) is more contemporary and the strong brushworks and darker background inspire a strength. This photograph shows size with roses as comparison. "Scattered" (19-04) 20" by 20" by 3/4" oil on canvas Click to Buy

Blue Iris (19-12)

I'm trying something new today.  For my small artworks painted on board I'm going to include the matboard from now on. I think it makes for a more attractive purchase.  I think it's important to see the artwork framed as well, it gives you a better visual as to how it will look on your wall. Or on your side table, as it's small. Blue Iris (19-12) 7" by 5" oil on canvas board Click to Buy

Blue Skies

We have been lucky enough to have gotten some blue sky this week. You sometimes don't realize how drab the days can be until you get a fantastic sunny one. Perhaps that was my inspiration earlier this week. Blue sky background it is. Peony in the Sky (19-07) 8" by 8" oil on canvas board Click to Buy

Is it Spring yet?

Okay, maybe I'm a little ahead of you in wanting Spring. It's only three months away, right? If you get it earlier, please don't tell me. Here's a small example of springtime for you. I will be painting a various amount of iris's in the next few months in all kinds of colours. Purple Iris (19-01) 7" by 5" canvas board Click to Buy

Floral Arrangements

Over the past few weeks I have done a few traditional floral paintings. They vary in colour and size but they are consistent in all the elements of a classic floral still life.  This is a more contemporary view of a floral arrangement so I kept it simple, light and fun. This arrangement was completely made up from three different photos with different lighting. I hope I pulled it off. This one was one I finished just before Christmas. I personally like the energy of it, as well as the muted raspberry colours. Which one is your favourite?

You've Got Mail!

Everyone likes getting packages in the mail and I'm no exception! It was just a small order but I very much needed new brushes.  I think getting art supplies in the mail ranks up there on the good things in life.  Right next to art supply stores.  What's your favourite thing to get in the mail?

Giant Peonies!

Almost done this one. 20" by 20" regular style canvas These giant flowers are not painting themselves. I've gone over and over this painting and it will get there eventually. I hope. Anyone have a name title for this one? Giant Peonies is as far as I've gotten.

2019

Well, we're well under way into the New Year now.  All the festivities are over, the tree has been put out to pasture and all signs of tinsel are gone. I have been working diligently on my big canvases and they are taking forever. So I am going to put one of them up here unfinished. 24" by 36" gallery style canvas (deep edge) it will be called "Saturday Sunrise" This is one of the biggest canvases I have done with such a small brush. If you ignore the trees on the left it looks like it's coming together. I'm going to darken the shadows on the right side and maybe I'll declare it done then? Maybe.
